Agro products worth over Rs 24 billion imported through eastern border point



JHAPA: Agricultural products worth more than Rs 24 billion were imported into Nepal through the Kakarbhitta border point during the last fiscal year.

According to Nanda Kishore Singh, head of the Plant Quarantine Office in Kakarbhitta, agricultural commodities worth Rs 24.2674 billion were imported through the eastern border point in fiscal year 2082/83. The imports included cereals, pulses, fresh vegetables and fruits sourced from India, China, Australia and Bangladesh.

Singh said cereals and pulses accounted for the largest share of the imported agricultural products. Nepal imported rice worth Rs 242 million and pulses worth Rs 188 million from India during the period.

Similarly, 1,996 metric tonnes of chickpeas worth Rs 182 million and 796 metric tonnes of pulses valued at Rs 108 million were imported from Australia and India, respectively.
