Auditor General calls for coordinated efforts to remove Nepal from FATF grey list

KATHMANDU: Auditor General Toyam Raya has called for coordinated efforts among all concerned agencies to help Nepal secure its removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list on anti-money laundering.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected president and vice president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) for its 10th Council’s third term, Raya said Nepal’s exit from the grey list would require a collective national effort.

“The Institute of Chartered Accountants can also make a significant contribution by conducting audits and other professional work with integrity,” he said. “I expect the institute to play an effective role in helping Nepal come off the grey list.”

Raya also urged chartered accountants to honestly expose irregularities and malpractices that may arise during audits and related professional activities.

He further said that the ICAN Act is no longer in line with current needs and informed participants that the government would move forward with the necessary amendments.

At the same event, Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) Chairperson Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta urged the institute to ensure impartial and transparent audits of banks, financial institutions, and both public and private companies.

Outgoing ICAN President CA Nil Bahadur Saru Magar said his tenure had focused on enhancing the institution’s credibility and professional standing.
