KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall have disrupted traffic on major highways at 11 locations across Nepal today.
According to the Nepal Police’s latest update issued on Thursday morning, road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces have been affected.
Highways that have been completely blocked include the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Mid-Hill Highway in Khotang, the B.P. Highway in Sindhuli and Kavrepalanchok, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, and Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur.
Other roads closed due to floods and landslides include the Lamosangu–Ramechhap Road in Dolakha, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Besisahar–Manang Road in Lamjung, the Beni–Jomsom Road in Myagdi, and the Bheri Corridor along the Jajarkot–Dolpa road section in Rukum West.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur and the K.I. Singh Highway in Dadeldhura are operating on a one-way basis due to flood and landslide damage.
Nepal Police warned that the risk of additional floods and landslides remains high as rainfall continues. Authorities have urged the public to check the latest road conditions before travelling and exercise caution while on the roads.
