Education Ministry rejects errors in Grade 12 results, calls allegations ‘propaganda’



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education and Sports has dismissed allegations of errors and negligence in the publication of Grade 12 examination results, insisting that the process was carried out fairly and without irregularities.

Speaking at a meeting of the parliamentary Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel said claims of mistakes in the results were merely “propaganda” and not supported by evidence.

Paudel stated that the ministry’s review of the result publication process found no errors and concluded that answer sheets had been evaluated honestly and responsibly.

He attributed the improvement in grading outcomes to increased accountability among teachers and said the authorities had also succeeded in publishing the results more quickly than in previous years.

“The ministry’s assessment found no mistakes in the result publication process. Answer sheets were evaluated with integrity and responsibility,” he told the committee.

During the meeting, the education secretary also addressed concerns regarding appointments in universities, stating that recruitment procedures were being conducted in accordance with existing university laws and regulations.

He noted that the ministry had taken note of issues related to permanent faculty appointments at Open University Nepal and was monitoring the matter.

Paudel further informed lawmakers that around 1,400 foreign students are currently enrolled in various universities across Nepal. He said discussions had been initiated with the Ministry of Home Affairs to simplify student visa procedures and improve Nepal’s attractiveness as a destination for higher education.

The government is also preparing policy measures aimed at increasing quotas for foreign students in medical education institutions, according to the secretary.

On the issue of student migration, Paudel said many Nepali students continue to pursue studies abroad due to limited employment opportunities at home after graduation.

He expressed confidence that stronger collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions and the private sector could create sufficient employment opportunities within the country, helping retain more students in Nepal after completing their studies.

“Improving domestic employment prospects is essential if we want to encourage students to remain in Nepal for both education and career opportunities,” he said.
