RSP Convention: Preparations underway for closed session

CHITWAN: The closed session of the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is scheduled to take place today, with the distribution of delegate identity cards.

The closed session, originally slated to begin at 8:30 am on Monday, was postponed by a day due to technical issues.

According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, the session will commence after the distribution of identity cards. He said the delay was caused by the incomplete verification of the list of convention delegates submitted by provincial committees and the printing of delegate identity cards.

Jha stated that, as the general convention is the party’s highest decision-making body, the party is committed to ensuring a transparent and dispute-free process. Although some delays occurred, necessary measures were taken to prevent any complications, he added.

The printing of identity cards continued through Monday night, and the cards are being distributed through provincial channels from Tuesday morning.

The party has said that the distribution process for delegates from all seven provinces, as well as integrated and special-category representatives, will proceed smoothly from designated locations.

According to the party, the closed session will follow the previously approved agenda once the identity card distribution is completed.

At the beginning of the session, Disciplinary Commission Coordinator Ramakanta Rimal is scheduled to present the commission’s report, which will be followed by discussions. Treasurer Lima Adhikari will then present the party’s financial report for deliberation.

Subsequently, General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti will table the organisational report, followed by discussions. The party’s joint general secretaries will then present the proposed statute for deliberation and approval.

Following the endorsement of the statute, party Chair Rabi Lamichhane is expected to present the political report for discussion and approval.

He is also likely to announce the formation of an interim management committee and hand over the responsibilities of the convention organising committee to the Election Commission.

The Election Commission will then publish the election schedule and other details related to the internal party elections.

The general convention was inaugurated on Sunday afternoon at Guest House Ground in Chitwan, while the closed session is being held at the Exhibition Centre of the Chitwan Industrial Association.
