Cannes Film Festival historic for Nepal: Sunita Dangol

KATHMANDU: Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol has said that this year’s Cannes Film Festival has been historic for Nepal.

Speaking to journalists upon her return at Tribhuvan International Airport on Saturday, Dangol said Nepali cinema achieved a significant milestone for the first time in the festival’s history.

She highlighted that the success of the film Elephants in the Fog, directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, which won the Jury Prize in the “Un Certain Regard” section, marks an important achievement for Nepal’s film industry, creative sector, and artistic community on the international stage.

Dangol said Kathmandu Metropolitan City is committed to the balanced development of the creative sector by utilising international knowledge, skills, and experience.

She added that international film festivals provide a valuable platform to showcase Nepali art, culture, and creativity to the world.

She also informed that during her visit to Cannes at the invitation of Cannes Mayor David Lisnard, she extended an invitation to him to attend a film festival to be held in Kathmandu.
