Education Ministry urges students to seek services only from renewed consultancies

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education and Sports has urged students planning to pursue higher education abroad to obtain services only from educational consultancies that have renewed their licenses for the fiscal year 2025/26.

The ministry published the updated list of renewed educational consultancy institutions and requested students and guardians to verify the status of consultancies before seeking services.

According to the ministry, the list was published following a decision made on May 20 by Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel.

A total of 1,459 consultancy institutions have been included in the approved list published on the ministry’s official website.

The government has also intensified action against institutions operating without approval under the “Educational Consultancy Service and Language Teaching Directive,” particularly targeting consultancies accused of financial fraud through false documents and misleading promises to students.

On May 15, authorities raided several suspicious and unauthorized consultancies in the Kathmandu Valley. Police are preparing to file cases against 32 individuals arrested during the operation.

Officials said legal action is being taken against institutions involved in activities such as operating without registration, using forged government seals and letterheads, and conducting transactions using false information related to foreign study processing.

The ministry stated that a nationwide campaign will be launched in coordination with police authorities to reform and regulate the educational consultancy sector.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Educational Consultancy Association has expressed support for the reform drive while urging authorities not to create unnecessary fear among legitimate businesses.
