MUSTANG: A Nepal–China border security coordination meeting was held on Friday in Lomanthang of Upper Mustang, focusing on strengthening cooperation along the northern frontier.
The meeting brought together officials from the Zhongba County Public Security Bureau and Nepali security agencies along with local representatives from Mustang district.
The Chinese delegation was led by Deputy County Governor Dunzhu Yujie and included Public Security Bureau Director Luoying, foreign liaison officer Siren Zhaxi, and five other officials.
From the Nepali side, participants included Chief District Officer Ajita Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhiring Kippa Lama, Armed Police Force DSP Bhesraj Giri, as well as local government representatives.
Chairpersons of Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality Lopsang Chhomphel Bista and Lomanthang Rural Municipality Vice Chair Chhyumi Bista were also present.
According to CDO Sharma, the meeting focused on issues related to border security in the Korala area, facilitation of cross-border movement, and measures to prevent potential crimes, smuggling, and other illegal activities along the border.
Discussions also covered strengthening cooperation between local administrations and security agencies of both countries to improve coordination in the future.
Chairperson Bista said both sides reached a mutual understanding to further strengthen relations between local governments and administrative bodies, and to continue joint efforts in addressing border-area challenges.
Officials noted that such coordination meetings are held annually on a rotational basis between Nepal and China. Earlier this year, a similar meeting was held in Zhongba County of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The Chinese delegation traveled to Lomanthang via the Korala border point, while Nepali officials had reached the location a day earlier for the meeting.
