Federal Parliament Secretariat ready for new HoR members’ swearing-in
The federal parliament secretariat is preparing to welcome the newly elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR) with a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for March 26 at 2:00 pm. HoR members have been requested to arrive at the venue at least two hours early in formal or cultural attire. President Ramchandra Paudel is set to administer the oath to the senior-most HoR member, 78-year-old Arjun Narsingh KC, at Shitalniwas on March 25. KC will then administer the oath to other members on March 26, following constitutional provisions.
Nepali Congress calls central working committee meeting for Tuesday
The Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its central working committee for Tuesday at 1:00 pm, according to acting chief secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal. The meeting will be held at the party’s central office in Sanepa. The committee had earlier met on Friday and Sunday. During those meetings, the committee decided to reject the resignation tendered by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa and conducted a preliminary review of the recent elections.
RSP weighs cabinet picks as Lamichhane, Balen camps ‘cross-check’ nominees
The Rastriya Swatantra Party is conducting internal assessments to finalize its cabinet lineup, with leaders from the camps of party chair Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah cross-checking potential nominees before government formation. The party, which secured a sweeping mandate in the March 5 elections, is now deliberating over key appointments, including ministers, Speaker, chief whip, and other parliamentary roles. While Swarnim Wagle is said to be finalized for the finance portfolio, decisions on other major ministries remain pending.
Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road expansion reaches 67 percent progress
The expansion of the Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel road section along the Araniko Highway has achieved around 67 percent physical progress three years after construction began. The 16-kilometre stretch, part of the Dhulikhel–Sindhuli–Bardibas road project, is being upgraded from a two-lane to a six-lane road. The project includes the construction of service lanes on both sides and a 2.5-metre-wide footpath. According to project officials, the work is expected to be completed within the extended deadline. The original timeline expired, and an additional one-year extension was granted in the last week of December.
Key bills lapse with House dissolution; new majority seen easing passage in next Parliament
Several crucial bills, including those related to the federal civil service, Nepal Police, and school education, have lapsed following the dissolution of the House of Representatives, resetting the legislative process for the incoming Parliament. The bills, which had previously advanced amid intense deliberations in parliamentary committees, became inactive after the House was dissolved in September 2025 following the post–Gen-Z movement political crisis. However, the new political landscape, marked by a strong majority secured by the Rastriya Swatantra Party, is expected to make it significantly easier to pass such long-pending legislation.

Gold price drops Rs 6,500 per tola on Monday
Gold prices fell by Rs 6,500 per tola on Monday, continuing a sharp downward trend in the domestic market. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has been fixed at Rs 275,500 per tola for the day. The decline follows an even steeper drop of Rs 12,500 recorded on Sunday, with gold trading at Rs 282,000 per tola.
Dedicated airport desk for NRNs, people of Nepali origin at TIA
The government has decided to set up a dedicated service desk at Tribhuvan International Airport for non-resident Nepalis and people of Nepali origin. According to the Department of Immigration Nepal, the separate desk will be established at both arrival and departure sections of the airport to facilitate smoother services for Nepali-origin foreign nationals and non-resident Nepalis. The move aims to strengthen their connection with Nepali language, culture, and identity, while also promoting tourism and investment in Nepal.
Home Minister honors officials for role in successful parliamentary elections
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Monday honored government officials and security personnel for their role in ensuring the successful conduct of the House of Representatives elections. At a ceremony held at the ministry, Aryal presented letters of appreciation to senior officials and heads of security agencies. Those recognized included Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, Defense Secretary Kedarnath Sharma, Lieutenant General Pradeep Jung KC, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Armed Police Force Chief Raju Aryal, and Chief of the National Investigation Department Tekendra Karki.
175 ride-sharing drivers penalized in Kathmandu traffic crackdown
Traffic police have taken action against 175 drivers affiliated with ride-sharing services during a special enforcement campaign in the Kathmandu Valley. The operation was launched in response to increasing traffic congestion and reports of unruly driving, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office. Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said the campaign focused on busy road sections, where multiple violations were detected among ride-hailing drivers.
Protest at National Women Commission demands justice for victims of violence
Survivors and families of violence-affected women held a protest at the National Women Commission, demanding immediate justice and accountability. Demonstrators raised slogans such as “Ensure women’s rights,” “End violence against women,” “Why is the Women Commission silent?” “Deliver justice to Inisha BK and Reshmika Pariyar,” and “Protect daughters and girls.” The families demanded a swift investigation into the rape and murder of Inisha BK from Surkhet and strict legal action against perpetrators in the rape-murder case of Reshmika Pariyar from Khotang. The protesters said that even after staging a sit-in at Maiti Ghar Mandala for justice, their concerns remained unaddressed, prompting them to bring the issue to the Women Commission.
Kathmandu prepares for Seto Machhindranath chariot festival; budget doubled to Rs 2 million
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun preparations for this year’s Seto Machhindranath Jatra, one of the Valley’s main religious and cultural events. A meeting held under the chair of Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol on Monday discussed route management, coordination among concerned agencies, and security arrangements for the chariot procession. Officials said the festival will pass through nine wards of the metropolis, with coordination required for religious, cultural, and logistical aspects.
