Upcoming polls crucial to restore democratic process: Ishwar Pokhrel

KATHMANDU: Ishwar Pokhrel, a senior leader of the CPN-UML, has said the upcoming elections are crucial to bring the country back onto a democratic and constitutional track.

Speaking to journalists during a door-to-door campaign in Handigaun on Monday, Pokhrel, who is contesting from Kathmandu Constituency No. 5, said the country is currently in an abnormal situation and the election holds special significance in restoring democratic and constitutional order.

He claimed that CPN-UML is the only party capable of building and steering the nation in the right direction.

Pokhrel said his candidacy is based on the needs of voters in the constituency and recommendations from party committees.

He also pledged to address people’s concerns and implement various plans that had previously been put forward.

Stating that voters are aware of the work he has accomplished in the past, Pokhrel expressed confidence that the electorate would support him and ensure his victory.

In Kathmandu-5, Pokhrel is facing competition from Pradip Paudel of the Nepali Congress, Kalpana Sharma from Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Kamal Thapa of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and Sasmit Pokhrel from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, among others.
