Supporters gather at Maitighar as Durga Prasai likely to be released

KATHMANDU: Supporters of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai have gathered at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu amid expectations of his release.

The Supreme Court of Nepal on Friday ordered authorities to present Prasai before the court. Following the directive, the District Police Range Kathmandu is set to produce him before the court on Monday.

There is a high likelihood that he could be released as per the Supreme Court’s order, prompting hundreds of his supporters to assemble at Maitighar Mandala.

Prasai was arrested last Monday evening from his residence in Bhaktapur. Earlier, he had been detained on February 6 from Chalnakhel of Dakshinkali Municipality in Kathmandu.

Most recently, he was taken into custody following information that he was allegedly active in disrupting the election process, acting under government instruction, according to officials.
