Update: Kathmandu-bound bus plunges into Trishuli, 17 dead

KATHMANDU: Seventeen people have died in a passenger bus accident near Charaudi in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7, Dhading, along the Prithvi Highway.

The bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421), which was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, plunged into the Trishuli River last night. Twelve men and six women were killed at the scene.

Among the deceased are one male and one female foreign national. Police said a total of 44 passengers were on board at the time of the accident. Twenty-six injured passengers have been rescued and taken to hospitals for treatment.

All injured individuals have been retrieved from the accident site. While some are receiving treatment at a local hospital, the majority have been referred to Kathmandu for further care.

Rescue operations were hampered due to the accident occurring in the middle of the night. However, personnel from all three district security agencies, along with local residents, carried out coordinated rescue efforts.
