Department fines two firms for irregularities



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined two firms following market inspections carried out on Sunday.

The Department imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on Bansbari Rice Mill in Bansbari, Kathmandu, after detecting irregularities during an on-site inspection. Likewise, Jayas Anna Ghar located at Mulpani Babachowk, Kageshwori Municipality-6, was fined Rs 10,000.

According to the Department, action was taken under Section 39 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, for offenses defined under Section 16 of the same Act.

In addition, Mega Mart Pvt. Ltd. and three other firms have been instructed to appear before the department within three days with relevant business documents. Corrective directives have also been issued to seven other firms.

The Department stated that it has been conducting regular market monitoring in the presence of local representatives, consumer rights activists and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of consumer protection laws
