Floods and landslides disrupt highways in Gandaki and Karnali provinces

KATHMANDU: Road traffic has been disrupted in several parts of Gandaki and Karnali provinces due to floods and landslides, Nepal Police said.

The Beni-Jomsom road section in Myagdi district is operating on a one-way basis following a landslide at Baisari in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2.

Similarly, floods have obstructed roads in Arughat Rural Municipality-2, -3 and -4, as well as the Nayapul area of Gorkha district. According to police, the road connecting Arughat with Dharche has been completely blocked after an iron bridge at Sotigaun was swept away.

Traffic has also been affected by flooding at Nayapul in Arughat Rural Municipality-1, where only small vehicles are currently able to operate.

In Karnali Province, the Karnali Highway is operating on a one-way basis following a landslide at Oilise in Barahatal Rural Municipality-5, Surkhet.

Police said efforts are underway to clear the affected road sections and restore normal traffic. Commuters and travellers have been urged to exercise caution while travelling through the affected areas and follow safety instructions from the authorities.

The disruptions have affected transportation links in the two provinces, with authorities working to reopen blocked routes and facilitate the movement of vehicles.
