KATHMANDU: Nepal Photo Library has expressed serious concern over the manipulation and misuse of its official photographs taken during the first national convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Chitwan, warning that legal action will be pursued against those responsible.
In a statement issued on Monday, the photo agency said images captured by its photojournalists during the convention, which began in Chitwan on Sunday, had been altered and shared on social media in a misleading and out-of-context manner.
According to the statement, several Facebook pages and personal accounts manipulated the photographs and reposted them with misleading narratives. Nepal Photo Library also noted that its name and photo credit had been used on the edited images without authorization.
The agency has demanded the immediate removal of all such misleading and unauthorized posts from social media platforms.
It warned that if the content remains online or is republished despite the notice, it will initiate legal proceedings against those involved.
“If the manipulation of our official photographs and the spread of misinformation through them do not stop immediately, legal action will be taken against the concerned individuals or pages,” the statement said.
Nepal Photo Library added that it would formally notify both the Press Council Nepal and the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau regarding the matter.
The agency also urged media outlets and social media users to respect copyright laws and exercise responsibility when using journalistic photographs.
According to the statement, a Facebook page named “Janata Television” allegedly edited and shared a photograph of Dr. Tosima Karki holding a pen, prompting strong objections from Nepal Photo Library over what it described as an unethical manipulation of its visual content.
