Pokharel says populism, anarchism pose only temporary challenge to UML’s guiding ideology

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the CPN-UML, Shankar Pokharel, has said that populism, anarchism, and opportunism are only temporary challenges to the party’s guiding principle of People’s Multiparty Democracy.

Issuing a statement on social media on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Nepal, Pokharel expressed his views while paying tribute to the party’s founders.

“Compared to the rich ideological foundation of People’s Multiparty Democracy, the challenges posed by populism, anarchism, and opportunism—amplified by algorithms in Nepali politics—are merely temporary,” Pokharel wrote. “Let us honor the proud history of the communist movement and reaffirm our commitment to advancing toward socialism under the guidance of this principle.”

Pokharel also recalled the contributions of founding leaders, including Pushpa Lal Shrestha, Narayan Bilas Joshi, Niranjan Govinda Vaidya, Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, and Moti Devi Shrestha.
