RASUWA: Residents of Dhunche and surrounding areas have welcomed the expansion of services at Rasuwa District Hospital, particularly the introduction of surgery facilities.
From fiscal year 2081/82 BS to mid-current fiscal year, the hospital treated 11,598 patients through its outpatient department and 3,066 through inpatient care, while performing 115 surgeries during the same period.
The 17-bed hospital, according to a recent social accountability program, provides 185 types of medicines under social services. In addition, 66 citizens over the age of 30 have received free treatment under the ‘Chief Minister’s Public Health Program’.
The hospital, originally established in 2042 BS during the expansion of health services from a Health Post in 2021 BS, first offered services under Dr. Bijay Khanal.
Participants at the program suggested further improvements, including the urgent provision of a new ambulance. The hospital receives support from the Nick Simon Foundation and regularly performs surgeries for appendicitis, hernia, and wound care. Video X-ray, dental, and laboratory services have also been expanded.
Public Health Officer Jham Prasad Acharya highlighted ongoing improvements, while Civil Society President Babulal Tamang noted that modern treatment services have reduced dependence on traditional healers.
The 2072 BS (2015) earthquake had destroyed the hospital’s old structures, forcing patients to be treated in tents for nearly two years. Thanks to efforts by the Nepal Red Cross Society, foreign donors, and dedicated staff such as Senior Public Health Officer Dr. Gun Sharma, a prefabricated hospital was constructed, easing service flow.
Medical Officer Dr. Amit Kumar Sah confirmed that even complex treatments are now possible. Program speakers, including Dr. Sunil Kumar Das, Board Chairman Niwesh Shrestha, and Public Health Officer Acharya, outlined future plans. Federation of Nepali Journalists President Keshav Prasad Poudel and attending media personnel praised the hospital’s transparency and social accountability practices.
