KATHMANDU: Six farmers were injured after a landslide swept away a paddy field while they were transplanting rice in Bidur Municipality-12, Bhattagaun, Nuwakot, on Monday.
The incident occurred while local farmers were working in a field owned by Nom Raj Bhatt when a large landslide suddenly struck the area.
Among the injured, 65-year-old Narayan Prasad Bhatt is reported to be in critical condition. He was rescued from the landslide debris nearly 700 to 800 metres downhill in a nearby forest and has been admitted to Grande Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment.
Those with minor injuries were treated at the Chaarghare Health Post.
According to police, many of the farmers managed to escape after noticing the landslide coming down from above, preventing a greater loss of life.
Ram Sharan Bhatt, son of the field owner, said the landslide completely washed away around seven ropanis of farmland.
“About seven ropanis of our field have been swept away. The farmland has turned into a cliff,” he said.
