Ministry directs local officials to remain at offices for disaster response

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed chief administrative officers of local governments and district coordination officers to remain at their offices and ensure regular attendance to strengthen coordination during disaster response.

In view of the ongoing monsoon season, which poses a heightened risk of floods, landslides, and other disasters across the country, the ministry has instructed local officials not to leave their duty stations during this critical period. It said the active presence of officials is essential for timely coordination, facilitation, decision-making, and emergency response.

With continuous rainfall triggering floods and landslides in several parts of the country, the ministry stressed the need for prompt rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and coordination efforts. Officials currently on leave have also been asked to shorten their leave, if necessary, and report to their respective offices.

The ministry further instructed local authorities to maintain close coordination with District Administration Offices, security agencies, provincial governments, and relevant federal agencies to ensure the timely exchange of information, effective disaster response, and proper documentation of damage to lives and property.

The directive was issued through a recent ministry circular.
