Gagan Thapa praises RSP’s mandate, urges party to avoid arrogance of power

CHITWAN: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has received an extraordinary level of public mandate in a short period and urged the party to move forward cautiously, avoiding the arrogance of power.

Speaking at RSP’s first national general convention in Chitwan on Sunday, Thapa said the party’s rise within just four years and the level of public support it has gained is remarkable and significant in Nepal’s political landscape.

Recalling Nepal’s political history, Thapa cautioned emerging political forces against repeating past mistakes where strong public mandates were eventually lost due to internal conflicts and misuse of power.

He said that in earlier instances, parties that gained significant public trust saw internal ego clashes and a tendency toward authoritarian behavior once in power, which ultimately led to political setbacks.

Thapa stressed that increasing arrogance within leadership often leads to undemocratic practices and results in the erosion of public trust.

He urged RSP to learn from such past experiences and ensure that its leadership remains disciplined and accountable.

Extending best wishes for the party’s convention, Thapa expressed hope that RSP would avoid internal rivalry and misuse of authority while continuing its political journey responsibly.
