Baburam Bhattarai says he felt like a 27-year-old at RSP convention

CHITWAN: Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said he felt as energetic as a 27-year-old while addressing the first national general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), despite being 72 years old.

Speaking at the convention in Chitwan on Sunday, Bhattarai said the enthusiasm and energy of the participants made him feel youthful.

“I am 72 years old, but seeing everyone here at the convention and on this stage, I feel like I am 27,” he said.

Bhattarai described himself as a continuous rebel and said emerging political forces in Nepal carry the potential for transformation in the country’s political landscape.

He praised RSP’s rapid rise in national politics, calling its achievements within a short time a significant development in Nepal’s political transition.

He noted that the party had succeeded in winning public trust and electing representatives through modern technology and scientific approaches.

Bhattarai also said that political change is possible not only through movements and struggles but also through gaining public confidence, adding that RSP had demonstrated this as an important example of Nepal’s evolving political process.

He kept his remarks brief, saying he was eager to listen to speeches by other leaders including Balendra Shah and RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane.
