UML proposes leadership hierarchy six months after general convention; Badal placed top among vice chairs

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML party has proposed an official leadership hierarchy for party office bearers six months after its 11th general convention, with Vice Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa placed as the top-ranked and most influential leader among the party’s vice chairs.

Party Chair K. P. Sharma Oli presented the proposal during a Secretariat meeting held in Gundu on Monday.

According to the proposed ranking, Vice Chair Bishnu Prasad Paudel, who has recently been linked to internal efforts calling for Oli’s retirement, has been placed third in the hierarchy among vice chairs.

Oli said the proposal was brought forward because the party had not formally finalized the ranking order of office bearers and central members following the 11th National General Convention.

The proposed hierarchy is expected to be endorsed at the Secretariat meeting scheduled for Friday.

The proposed order of office bearers is as follows:

  • Chair: K. P. Sharma Oli
  • Vice Chair: Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’
  • Vice Chair: Bishnu Prasad Paudel
  • Vice Chair: Prithvi Subba Gurung
  • Vice Chair: Gokarna Bista
  • Vice Chair: Raghuji Panta
  • General Secretary: Shankar Pokharel
  • Deputy General Secretary: Lekh Raj Bhatta
  • Deputy General Secretary: Raghuveer Mahaseth
  • Deputy General Secretary: Yogesh Bhattarai

The party’s secretaries include Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Padma Aryal, Khagaraj Adhikari, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Yamlal Kandel, Sherdhan Rai, Rajan Bhattarai, Hikmat Karki and Mahesh Basnet.
