2 killed in fire in Udayapur

KATHMANDU: Two people have died in a fire that broke out at Shanti Chowk in Chaudandigadhi Municipality–7, Beltar, early Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Laxmi Narayan Khadka and 30-year-old Pawan Khadka.

According to police, Asmita Khadka was also injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the Municipal Hospital in Beltar.

The fire started at around 2:45 am at Laxmi Narayan Khadka’s house and quickly spread, destroying the homes of Rabin Kumar Das and Sakaldev as well. All occupants were reportedly asleep at the time.

District Police Office Udayapur Chief SP Rajan Chapagain said Laxmi Narayan and Pawan Khadka died while trapped inside the burning house.

The blaze was brought under control later in the morning with the joint efforts of fire brigades from Triyuga and Chaudandigadhi municipalities, along with local residents and police personnel.

Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. Further details on the extent of damage are still being assessed.
