Heat wave likely in Terai as temperatures rise across plains

KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently experiencing a partial influence of local westerly winds along with a low-pressure system around eastern parts of the country. Due to this, the Himalayan region is expected to remain generally cloudy.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, skies will be partly cloudy in the hilly areas and in the Terai of Koshi Province, while most parts of the remaining Terai are expected to remain mainly clear.

The bulletin also indicates a possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at one or two locations in the Himalayan region.

The department has further warned of hot daytime conditions in the Terai regions of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in valleys and low-lying areas. A heat wave is also likely in parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

For tonight, partial cloud cover is expected in the Himalayan region, while hilly and Terai areas will remain mostly clear. Light rain or snowfall may occur at isolated places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
