Rain makes road slippery, traffic blocked on Butwal–Narayangadh section

KATHMANDU: Heavy rain has made roads slippery, blocking traffic on the Butwal–Narayangadh section of the East–West Highway.

The affected area is Daunne, Triveni Rural Municipality–2 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), where rainfall caused vehicles to get stuck near the Ghiukhola and Vishwakarma Temple, according to Yubaraj Khadka, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office.

“The light rainfall has already made vehicles slip, especially on uphill stretches. Vehicles moving east to west are getting stuck, causing the road to be blocked,” Khadka said.

The Narayangadh–Butwal Road Project stated that efforts are underway to clear the obstruction. The incomplete construction of the Daunne section under the road widening project has made it prone to blockage even during normal rainfall.

Meanwhile, the project office has imposed a restriction on heavy vehicles from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily until March 22 to reduce risks during slippery nighttime conditions.

Smaller vehicles, passenger services, and emergency transport continue to operate, though challenges persist due to the slippery road, the police official added.
