CHITWAN: A total of 60 cameras used in the tiger census in the Chitwan National Park–Parsa National Park complex have gone missing.
Information Officer of Chitwan National Park, Avinash Thapa Magar, said that out of 85 problematic cameras, 60 were lost while 25 were damaged. He added that a total of 1,780 cameras were deployed in the two national parks for the census.
The tiger count, which began on Poush 3, concluded on Thursday. According to Thapa Magar, the two national parks were treated as one complex and divided into three blocks for the purpose of the census.
The complex was divided into 958 grids for the survey. Of the cameras installed across these grids, 85 were reported to have faced issues.
Each block had cameras installed for 17 nights. One grid covered an area of two square kilometers.
In the previous tiger census conducted in 2022, Nepal recorded 355 adult tigers. Of them, 128 were found in Chitwan, 125 in Bardiya, 25 in Banke, 41 in Parsa, and 36 in Shuklaphanta.
