KATHMANDU: Members of the federal parliament will now be able to appoint personal secretaries after the government’s decision was published in the Nepal Gazette, opening the legal way for the facility to resume.
The Cabinet had recently decided to restore the provision of personal secretaries for lawmakers. Following the decision, a notice was published in the Nepal Gazette amending the schedule of the Act Relating to Remuneration, Facilities and Conditions of Service of Federal Parliament Officials and Members.
Lawmakers had previously been receiving the facility of appointing personal secretaries. However, the provision was removed by the previous government as part of a cost-cutting and austerity policy.
At that time, the schedule of the Act Relating to Remuneration, Facilities and Conditions of Service of Federal Parliament Officials and Members was amended to scrap the provision.
The current government has reinstated the facility by revising the schedule under Section 25 of the same Act, allowing federal parliament officials and members to appoint personal secretaries once again.
