KATHMANDU: The government has decided to form a four-member task force to review Nepal’s public holiday system following the implementation of the two-day weekend.
The decision was made at a meeting of federal secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki on Monday. The review will assess the need for existing public holidays after Saturdays and Sundays were designated as weekly holidays.
According to the decision signed by Chief Secretary Karki, the task force will be led by a joint secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs and include representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the Ministry of Finance.
The task force has been given 15 days to submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The meeting also decided that concerned ministries should immediately begin preparing draft bills identified for formulation during the current fiscal year.
In addition, ministries have been directed to initiate the process of repealing outdated, irrelevant and performance-hindering laws to improve governance and administrative efficiency.
