NEW DELHI: The national capital of India remained tense on Monday as the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ march drew a strong police response amid heightened security during Parliament’s Monsoon Session.
Police fired tear gas and used limited force after protesters allegedly tried to push past barricades leading towards Parliament. Several demonstrators were detained during the operation.
Thousands of CJP supporters assembled at Jantar Mantar, where several Opposition leaders joined the protest. The demonstration centered on demands related to the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, with the government and the protesters remaining sharply divided over the issue.
During the clashes, several Delhi Police personnel sustained injuries. According to the police, some protesters threw stones at security personnel while attempting to advance towards Parliament. One police officer told ANI, “We were standing near the barricades when stones were pelted at us by the protesters.”
The CJP, however, rejected the police’s version of events and accused security forces of using excessive force. Party leaders alleged that several demonstrators, including Sonam Wangchuk’s wife and a 12-year-old girl, were assaulted during the police action. The exchange of allegations followed escalating tensions as protesters attempted to cross police barricades near Parliament.
CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das said they presented three principal demands to Union Minister J. P. Nadda: the release of Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and compensation of INR one crore for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.
