KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides and flooding, disrupting traffic along nine major highways across the country, according to Nepal Police.
Several road sections in Koshi and Bagmati provinces have been either completely blocked or partially affected, causing difficulties for travellers.
The Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur Municipality-5, Bokhim, is currently operating under one-way traffic management after flooding affected the road section.
The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked due to landslides at Rajduwali in Ilam and Khobare Khola in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-1 of Panchthar. Similarly, the Diktel–Bhojpur section of the Mid-Hill Highway at Matekhola in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-6 has been fully closed due to landslides.
In Bagmati Province, traffic along the BP Highway has been temporarily halted due to the risk of flooding. The Kathmandu–Hetauda Kanti Highway has also been suspended until further notice because of possible floods and landslides.
Police reported that the Kodari Highway and Jurikhola and Arani road sections in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 of Sindhupalchok are completely blocked by landslides. Meanwhile, one-way traffic has been maintained along the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Bokrejhunda in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-6 of Rasuwa.
The Prithvi Highway at Phisling in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 of Chitwan has also been fully obstructed due to landslides.
In Dhading, the Prithvi Highway at Tismarkhani in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 is operating under one-way traffic, while the road section at Jawangkhola remains completely blocked.
Authorities have warned that the risk of further landslides and floods remains high due to continued rainfall. Travellers have been advised to check updated road conditions with concerned agencies before beginning their journeys.
