Chitwan National Park distributes Rs 12.9 million in wildlife damage relief



CHITWAN: Chitwan National Park (CNP) has distributed Rs 12.9 million in compensation to people living in settlements around the park for losses caused by wild animals during the last fiscal year.

The relief covered human casualties and injuries, as well as damage to crops, livestock, homes, stored food, and poultry.

According to the park’s Information Officer, Abinash Thapa Magar, Rs 134,176 was provided for the treatment of minor injuries caused by wildlife attacks, while Rs 2,942,481 was distributed for the treatment of serious injuries. In addition, Rs 5 million in compensation was provided to the families of five people who lost their lives in wildlife-related incidents.

The CNP also distributed Rs 2.36 million for livestock losses, Rs 70,000 for damage to stored food, Rs 339,650 for damage to houses, Rs 2.18 million for crop losses, and Rs 43,500 for damage to poultry.

The Park provides annual relief to residents living in and around its buffer zone to compensate for losses caused by wildlife.
