One killed, 30 injured in school bus accident in Udayapur



KATHMANDU: One person was killed and 30 others injured after a school bus met with an accident along the Madan Bhandari Highway at Jogitol in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-7, Udayapur, on Saturday morning.

According to the District Police Office, the bus bearing registration number Ba 2 Kha 6438, carrying staff members of Deep Education Boarding School and travelling from Mahottari to Sunsari, veered off the road and plunged around 12 metres down.

Following the accident, a police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Sangamchok, rescued the injured and transported them to Udayapur District Hospital for treatment.

Police said 55-year-old Bimlesh Dutta of Bardibas Municipality died during treatment at the hospital.

Among the injured, 38-year-old Rasila Kumari Chaudhary of Gaushala Municipality-2, Mahottari, and her 12-year-old son Sandesh Kumar Chaudhary sustained serious injuries and were referred to Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar for further treatment.

Other injured passengers are receiving treatment at Udayapur District Hospital.

Police said the bus driver, 28-year-old Jeevan Ale of Gaushala Municipality-10, Mahottari, remained unharmed and is currently under police custody for further investigation.
