RUPANDEHI: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Poudel has expressed confidence that Gautam Buddha International Airport will become fully operational in the near future.
Speaking at a program in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi, on Friday, Minister Poudel said the government is undertaking the necessary preparations to ensure the airport’s effective operation.
He dismissed claims that the airport has remained underutilized due to political or diplomatic reasons, stating that policy shortcomings were the primary cause. According to the minister, the government is working to address and correct those policy issues.
“There is now a provision for obtaining labor permits from one’s home district, eliminating the need to travel to Kathmandu for the service,” Poudel said.
The minister emphasized that efforts should focus not only on facilitating the movement of Nepali migrant workers but also on attracting international tourists and increasing passenger traffic through effective promotional campaigns.
He further noted that the development of additional aviation infrastructure, including the proposed Nijgadh International Airport, should remain a long-term national priority.
