Bhupadev Shah likely to be appointed RSP General Secretary as Sunil Lamsal becomes Minister

KATHMANDU: The possibility of Bhupadev Shah being appointed as the second General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has increased.

Following the appointment of Sunil Lamsal as Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, party leaders are preparing to reshuffle key responsibilities. Lamsal had earlier been appointed General Secretary as per a seven-point agreement reached on Poush 13, 2082, under the leadership of senior leader Balen Shah.

Now, Balen is reportedly planning to bring forward his close aide Bhupadev Shah for the powerful position. Bhupadev, who previously worked in Balen’s secretariat during his tenure at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is considered a trusted associate.

Although Bhupadev contested the election from Achham Constituency No. 2 on Falgun 21, he was unsuccessful. After the loss, he was not included in the prime minister’s secretariat. However, sources say Balen is now seeking to elevate him within the party structure.

A central committee meeting currently underway in Banasthali is expected to endorse the proposal to appoint Bhupadev as General Secretary. According to party insiders, there is near consensus between senior leader Balen and party chair Rabi Lamichhane on the matter.

“Today’s central committee meeting is highly likely to pass the proposal and appoint Bhupadev as General Secretary. Discussions are ongoing,” a party leader said. “With Sunil becoming a minister, the leadership is looking to assign Bhupdev a significant role within the party.”
