Kulman Ghising urges government to withdraw fuel price hike

KATHMANDU: Kulman Ghising, chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, has urged the government to withdraw the recent increase in petroleum prices.

Speaking at a press conference held in Birendranagar, Surkhet during the Karnali Province–level first leaders and cadres gathering and organizational expansion program, Ghising said the government should provide special fuel price concessions for Karnali Province.

“Karnali already faces high costs due to its difficult geography. Increasing the prices of fuels such as diesel, petrol and gas will make travel and transportation harder for both domestic and international tourists,” he said. Ghising also noted that neighboring India has not increased fuel prices and urged the government to reduce the burden of price hikes on citizens.

He added that his party is ready to cooperate in creating an environment for the two-thirds majority government to work effectively.

Ghising also claimed that while leading the Nepal Electricity Authority and serving in government, around Rs 35 billion in investment was secured for electrification and transmission line expansion in Karnali.

According to him, work on a 132 kV transmission line has already reached Jumla.

Ghising further said that although the party had to contest elections soon after its formation and suffered defeat due to organizational challenges, the party is now focusing on expanding its structure down to the ward level and aims to emerge as a major force in the next election.
