KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is preparing to launch direct flights between Kathmandu and Dhaka in the near future.
The Corporation has initiated the required groundwork and formed a feasibility study subcommittee to assess the plan. According to Subash Rijal, Director of the Operations Department and senior captain, the move aims to address the long-standing gap, as Nepal’s national flag carrier has yet to operate flights to Dhaka despite the two countries being close neighbors.
Currently, airlines from Bangladesh operate regular flights to Kathmandu, and Nepal’s private carrier Himalaya Airlines also serves the Dhaka route. However, Nepal Airlines has not yet begun operations on this sector. The Corporation said flight schedules will be finalized based on the study committee’s report.
Meanwhile, Nepal Airlines has expanded its Kathmandu–Delhi–Kathmandu service by adding three more weekly flights since March 31, bringing the total frequency to 10 flights per week.
In addition, the corporation has formed a Cargo Management System Study Task Force to strengthen and streamline its cargo operations.
