Blasts heard over Jerusalem as Israel confirms strike on Iran gas field

TEL AVIV: Explosions were heard over Jerusalem as fresh strikes were reported in Iran’s capital, Tehran, amid rapidly escalating tensions in the region. Iranian state television said at least four waves of missiles were launched in quick succession, signaling a sharp intensification of hostilities.

Air defense systems were also activated elsewhere, with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain reporting that they intercepted and destroyed incoming drones. In Iran, residents expressed growing fear over the situation, with one individual in Karaj warning that continued attacks could leave the country devastated, BBC reported.

Iran’s foreign minister has cautioned that Tehran would respond with “zero restraint” if further strikes target its infrastructure. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel carried out strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas field independently, stressing that the United States was not involved in the operation.

The conflict has also rattled global energy markets. Gas prices have surged across the UK and Europe following an attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan energy complex, which Qatari authorities described as a dangerous escalation, raising concerns over broader regional instability and supply disruptions.
