Nepali Congress finalizes candidates amid internal tensions



KATHMANDU: Amid continued tension between factions following the party’s Special General Convention, the Nepali Congress has been steadily finalizing its candidates for the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Party President Gagan Thapa has intensified consultations with rival groups and pushed the ticket distribution process to its final stage. According to Thapa’s secretariat, candidate selection has been completed in almost all constituencies, with only a few seats left undecided.

The process gained further momentum after former Prime Minister and outgoing party president Sher Bahadur Deuba announced that he would not contest the election. Following his decision, the party has also moved ahead with selecting a new candidate in his long-held constituency.
