KATHMANDU: Nepal will take on hosts Oman today in the final match of the ongoing tri-series under the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, with a victory crucial to its bid to regain sixth place in the standings and retain its One-Day International (ODI) status.
The match will be played at the Ministry Turf 1 cricket ground in Al Amerat, Oman, starting at 11:15 a.m. Nepali time.
Nepal, which is seeking to finish among the top six teams in the League 2 standings to preserve its ODI status, will enter the match under pressure following its defeat to Canada on Saturday.
Nepal had made a strong start to the ongoing tri-series, defeating both Canada and Oman in its first two matches. However, the loss to Canada in the third match has complicated its position in the standings.
With the victory over Nepal, Canada has climbed to sixth place with 29 points from 36 matches. Nepal, meanwhile, has slipped to seventh place, with 28 points from 35 matches.
A win against Oman today would allow Nepal to overtake Canada and return to sixth place in the standings.
Finishing among the top six teams in the World Cup League 2 standings is particularly important, as those teams will retain their ODI status. Nepal’s result against Oman could therefore prove decisive in its bid to remain among the top six.
