KATHMANDU: The monsoon system has become more active across the country, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warning of rainfall in most parts of Nepal.
The Department said the monsoon low-pressure line is currently slightly above its average position in western Nepal, around the Terai region in central Nepal and near its average position in the east.
The weather remains cloudy across the country, with light to moderate rainfall occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in one or two places in Karnali Province.
According to the Department, most parts of the country will remain generally to completely cloudy this afternoon. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in many areas of the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions, while snowfall is possible in some high Himalayan areas.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at some places in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Heavy rainfall is also expected at a few places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as at one or two places in the Terai areas of Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The Department said the country will remain mostly cloudy tonight as well, with chances of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in several areas. Moderate rain is likely in most parts of the hilly regions of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in the hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces. Snowfall with rain is also possible in some Himalayan areas.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at some places in the hills and Terai of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces tonight, while heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hills and Terai areas of Madhes and Bagmati provinces.
The Department has urged people in vulnerable areas to remain alert, particularly as very heavy rainfall is possible in some areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has advised the public to remain vigilant, warning that excessive rainfall could increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, inundation, mudslides and soil erosion.
