Cycle track constructed at Ghodepani–Punhill to boost adventure tourism

MYAGDI: A dedicated cycle track has been constructed connecting the renowned tourist destinations of Ghodepani and Punhill in Ward-6 of Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi, with the aim of promoting adventure tourism and encouraging visitors to extend their stay in the area.

The cycle track was inaugurated by Annapurna Rural Municipality Chairperson Bharat Kumar Pun and former chairperson Dam Bahadur Pun amid a special programme.

According to Ward Chairperson Ram Bahadur Khadka, the four-kilometre track was built with a budget of Rs. 600,000 allocated by the rural municipality for the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS. The route links Punhill with Lunglung Siddha, Laligurans Park and Phaleghar in Ghodepani.

Cyclist Anil Bishwakarma said the track offers an adventurous riding experience through the Gurans forest while providing spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Located at an elevation of 3,210 metres above sea level, Punhill is a popular destination among domestic and international tourists.

“Ghodepani–Punhill is an attractive cycling destination located close to Pokhara,” Bishwakarma said. “The newly constructed track meets the essential standards required for cycling and will contribute to the promotion of cycling tourism in the region.”

Former Annapurna Rural Municipality Chairperson Dam Bahadur Pun, who has long advocated for the development of cycling infrastructure in the area, said the cycle track connecting Laligurans Park and Peribharani Lake has been developed with a focus on enhancing the tourism potential of the Ghodepani–Punhill region.

He added that a feasibility study has also been conducted for the construction of additional cycling routes linking Ramchekafaldanda, Histan Tikot, Sikha and Khiwang in response to growing interest from adventure tourists.

Rural Municipality Chairperson Bharat Kumar Pun said the promotion and expansion of cycling infrastructure would be incorporated into the municipality’s plans and budget for the upcoming fiscal year. He described the cycle track as a new tourism product for Punhill, which is famous for its sunrise views, panoramic Himalayan scenery, Gurans (rhododendron) forests and rugged mountain landscapes.

Punhill, reached after an approximately 45-minute uphill walk from Ghodepani, offers sweeping views of the Gurja, Putha, Manapathi, Nilgiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges.

The Ghodepani–Punhill area is one of the most popular destinations along the world-renowned Annapurna trekking route. Local authorities believe the addition of a cycle track will further diversify tourism activities and attract adventure enthusiasts to the region.
