Three Chepang children die after eating wild mushrooms in Chitwan



BHARATPUR: Three children have died after falling critically ill from eating wild mushrooms in Kulbang, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-1, Chitwan.

The deceased have been identified as nine-year-old Namuna Chepang, 11-year-old Sanjay Chepang, and 13-year-old Manita Chepang, all members of the same family.

According to Lok Bahadur Magar, principal of National Secondary School, Hattibang, Namuna died at home, while Sanjay died during treatment on Saturday night. Manita died at Bharatpur Hospital at around 6:00 am this morning.

The incident occurred after the family of Shyam Bahadur Chepang consumed wild mushrooms collected from a nearby forest on May 9.

Soon after eating the mushrooms, all five family members fell ill. The three children, who were in critical condition, were later admitted to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment.

School records show that Namuna was a Grade 2 student, Sanjay studied in Grade 3, and Manita was in Grade 5. The parents survived the incident.

Authorities said the cremation of two of the children has already been completed, while preparations are underway to conduct the post-mortem of the third child.
