Deuba faction stresses party unity, urges Sanepa to take lead



KATHMANDU: Leaders from the faction of former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba have stressed the need to strengthen internal unity within the party.

During a discussion held in Kathmandu on Sunday among members elected from the party’s 14th General Convention, leaders said that since the court has already delivered its verdict on the party dispute, the focus should now shift toward reinforcing unity within the party.

Nepali Congress leader Kundan Raj Kafle said their view is that the Sanepa faction, led by party president Gagan Thapa, should take a leading role in bringing all sides together to maintain unity in the party.

He added that discussions among former members who did not participate in the special general convention will continue, and necessary decisions will be taken on how to move the party forward.

Kafle also said the meeting discussed issues including the party’s past performance and the reasons behind its defeat in elections.
