NC rule from 2046 to 2051 BS was ‘golden era,’ asserts President Thapa



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the period from 2046 BS to 2051 BS, when the party led the governments, was a ‘golden era’ in Nepali political history.

Speaking at an open question-and-answer session on Thursday during the release of the party’s commitments letter it unveiled in view of the House of Representatives (HoR) election, President Thapa said many of the country’s lasting economic achievements were built on the reforms introduced during that time. According to him, the foundations for Nepal’s current economic development were laid between 2046 BS and 2051 BS, when the NC took significant steps toward economic reform.

He added that the country must now determine its path towards greater economic prosperity. Thapa further viewed a review of Nepal’s major public policies shows they were largely shaped by reforms carried out under NC leadership. The party leaders, including BP Koirala, were visionary figures who looked 30 years ahead when formulating policies, Thapa reminded.

“We will further highlight our glorious history and stories,” he said, adding that the party would recall its past struggles. He emphasized that the NC has a clear dream and vision for economic progress and prosperity over the next 30 years.
