Nepali Congress pledges clean politics, limits ministries ahead of polls

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has vowed to steer the party toward transparent governance and avoid coalition politics that, he said, have historically corrupted Nepali politics.

Addressing a direct Q&A program in Janakpur, Thapa stressed that the party will correct past administrative mistakes and strengthen its core values. “We come with a pledge that a transformed Nepali Congress will change the country. We will sharpen our principles even further,” he stated.

Thapa added that the Nepali Congress will no longer engage in political power-sharing deals with other parties, either during elections or in government appointments. “Even after forming the government, there will be no division of constitutional or political posts. This is the pledge of a reformed Congress,” he said, assuring that no one will face humiliation under a Congress-led government.

The party leader also announced plans to limit the number of ministries, proposing 16 at the federal level and 6 in the provinces. He stated that if the electorate grants Congress a majority in the February 21 polls, the party will honor this commitment.

“Traditionally, coalition governments have led to an increase in ministries due to negotiation pressures, but as per our pledge, we will not create more than 16 federal and 6 provincial ministries,” Thapa added.
