Govt recommends ambassadors for 13 countries
The government has recommended 13 ambassadorial nominees, with experts, academics and professionals proposed for diplomatic missions in countries including India, China, the US, Japan and the UK. A Cabinet meeting held on Friday under the leadership of Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) recommended ambassadors for the 13 countries. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said the government had recommended qualified individuals from diverse professional backgrounds for the ambassadorial posts. The government will now send the nominees to the parliamentary hearing process. Following the completion of the hearing, the government will seek approval from the respective countries. Once approval is received, the President will appoint the nominees as ambassadors to the respective countries.
Finance Minister Wagle and Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar hold talks in New Delhi
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday, holding discussions on issues of mutual interest between Nepal and India. Wagle is currently in India on a three-day visit aimed at strengthening economic and bilateral engagement between the two neighbouring countries. The meeting with Jaishankar comes a day after Wagle held talks with his Indian counterpart, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The discussions with Sitharaman focused on matters related to economic cooperation between Nepal and India. Wagle’s meetings with senior Indian officials come amid continued engagement between the two countries on trade, investment, connectivity, infrastructure development and other areas of bilateral cooperation.
18 bodies recovered from Upper Trishuli-1 tunnel
The bodies of 18 workers who went missing inside a tunnel following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood have been recovered from the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydroelectric Project in Rasuwa. Ashok Thapa, chief deputy superintendent of police at the District Police Office, Rasuwa, said the bodies were recovered during ongoing search and rescue operations on Thursday. According to Harka Tamang, social expert at the Upper Trishuli-1 project, the bodies were found inside the tunnel, around 100 metres from Audit-3. The site is located north of Mailung, approximately 5.5 kilometres along the project’s 9.8-kilometre-long tunnel. The Nepali Army and employees of the hydropower company have been involved in the search and rescue operation, Tamang said.
Govt revenue rises by Rs 25 billion
The government collected Rs 183.20 billion in revenue during the first two months of fiscal year 2026/27, marking an increase of more than Rs 25 billion compared with the same period last year. According to the Financial Comptroller General Office, revenue collection stood at Rs 157.67 billion during the corresponding period last year. Of the total revenue collected this year, Rs 172.42 billion came from taxes, while non-tax revenue accounted for Rs 10.77 billion. When grants and other receipts are included, the government’s total receipts reached Rs 190.10 billion, up by around Rs 30 billion year-on-year. Government expenditure also increased during the period, rising to Rs 199.83 billion from Rs 180.81 billion a year earlier—an increase of nearly Rs 20 billion.
PM Balen Shah interacts with Gen-Z lawmakers
Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah (Balen) has held an interaction with lawmakers from the Gen-Z age group. The interaction was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the discussion focused on the use of emerging technologies and digital governance, youth employment and startup policies, technical education and accessible healthcare services, and sustainable development, including environmental conservation.
Cabinet expanded in Bagmati Province
The Cabinet of Bagmati Province has been expanded with the appointment of Rama Ale Magar as Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Environment from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota administered the oath of office and secrecy to Minister Ale Magar. Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar appointed him to the post on Friday. Ale Magar was directly elected to the Provincial Assembly from Kathmandu Constituency No. 10 (2). She had previously served as Minister for Youth and Sports in the government led by Shalikram Jamkattel.
Nine leaders leave Rajendra Mahato-led Rastriya Mukti Party
Nine leaders, including General Secretary Keshav Kumar Jha, have left the Rajendra Mahato-led Rastriya Mukti Party, Nepal. The leaders announced their separation from the party, citing dissatisfaction with recent political developments and the party’s style of functioning. Those who have left include central-level leaders, among them General Secretary Jha. They said they decided to leave the party after concluding that the country’s politics cannot move forward under the old political approach and leadership. Rajendra Mahato had announced the formation of the Rastriya Mukti Party, Nepal, ahead of the March 5 election. He formed the party by bringing together leaders who had left various political parties as well as leaders associated with identity-based movements.
Gold and silver prices increase
The prices of gold and silver have increased in the domestic market today. The price of gold increased by Rs 3,600 per tola, while silver went up by Rs 150 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers, the price of fine gold was fixed at Rs 303,100 per tola today, while silver was priced at Rs 4,775 per tola. On Thursday, fine gold was traded at Rs 299,500 per tola, while silver was priced at Rs 4,625 per tola.
NC lawmaker Panta urges integrated approach to address growing climate and disaster risks
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Kamala Panta has stressed the need to strengthen disaster preparedness and early warning systems to reduce the growing risks posed by climate change to mountains, glaciers, glacial lakes, river systems and human settlements. Speaking at today’s meeting of the National Assembly, she said the mountains are not only a source of Nepal’s natural beauty but also a major source of water. She warned that changes in glaciers and glacial lakes could directly affect agriculture, drinking water, hydropower, biodiversity and the lives of people living downstream. “When glaciers and glacial lakes change, the risks of floods and landslides also change. The risks to hydropower projects, roads and bridges increase. Agriculture and drinking water systems are affected, and ultimately the impact reaches human settlements,” she said.
NRNs in Texas contribute Rs 21.5 million for Bhote Koshi flood survivors
The Nepali community in Texas has contributed Rs 21.517 million to support the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the Bhote Koshi floods in Nepal. According to the Nepali Consulate General in Dallas, the contributions came from several organizations and community groups. The Lama Foundation of Bedford donated Rs 10.7 million, India Bazaar of Fort Worth contributed Rs 3.817 million, One Step Foundation donated Rs 2.5 million, Avant Foundation contributed Rs 1.5 million, Palpali Sangam America donated Rs 1.5 million, and Nuwakot Picnic Group Texas contributed Rs 1.5 million. Meanwhile, the Nepali Public Relations Committee (NPRC) America, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, has separately announced that it sent US$66,195.88 collected from its 18 chapters to the Government of Nepal through the Nepali Congress’s Disaster Mitigation Fund.
Lumbini Chief Minister Acharya calls for full implementation of Constitution
Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chet Narayan Acharya has stressed the need for coordination and collaboration among all three tiers of government for the effective implementation of the Constitution. Speaking at a sanitation programme held at the provincial administrative premises in Deukhuri on the eve of Constitution Day today, Chief Minister Acharya said the constitutional rights granted to the provincial and local levels have yet to be fully devolved. He urged the federal government to address the gaps in the implementation of these provisions. He stressed that the federal government should take the initiative to transfer the rights of the provincial and local governments as provided for by the Constitution.
‘Multilateral cooperation needed to reduce climate crisis risks’
Stakeholders have emphasized the need for greater multilateral cooperation to reduce the risks posed by the climate crisis. Speaking at a high-level policy dialogue on the growing climate crisis organized by the Institute for Strategic and Socioeconomic Research (ISSR) in Durbarmarg, Kathmandu, participants said the recent Bhotekoshi disaster on August 26 underscored the need to strengthen research, investigation and disaster preparedness. Former Vice President of the Asian Development Bank and Vice Chancellor of Nepal University Dr. Bindunath Lohani said disasters occurring in the Himalayan region do not affect the region alone. He said Nepal should take the initiative to strengthen regional and international cooperation to reduce the risks posed by such disasters. Noting that countries in the South Pacific region have united on the issue of climate change, Lohani suggested that Nepal should also enhance cooperation with countries in the region.
Dengue infection confirmed in 32 people in Kavre
The number of people confirmed to have dengue in Kavrepalanchok has reached 32. According to the latest data released by the Public Health Office, dengue infection was confirmed in 32 people in the district between July 17 and September 17. Public Health Officer Shishir Pudasaini said the highest number of cases has been recorded in Banepa Municipality and Panchkhal Municipality, with 13 cases each. Three new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours—one each in Panchkhal Municipality, Namobuddha Municipality and Mandandeupur Municipality. Dhulikhel and Panauti municipalities, as well as Bhumlu, Roshi, Temal, Khanikhola, Bethanchowk, Mahabharat and Chaurideurali rural municipalities, have not reported any dengue cases so far, according to Public Health Office Information Officer Dipendra Kaji Shrestha.
Buddha Circuit connecting Panauti, Namobuddha and Temal
The ‘Buddha Circuit’ is set to be developed as a trekking route connecting major historical, religious and tourist destinations in the southeastern part of Kavrepalanchok. The federal government has allocated Rs 250 million for the project, which will connect the historic towns of Panauti, Namobuddha and Temal. The project will be implemented in phases using the allocated budget, Kavrepalanchok MP Madhu Chaulagain said. In the first phase, Rs 100 million will be spent on constructing physical and cultural heritage structures related to Buddhism along both sides of the road from Dabili in Panauti to Namobuddha. Information boards will be installed at various locations, along with Mane walls, chaityas and Laughing Buddha statues. Thangka paintings and other informational displays will also be featured.
Bhote Koshi floods: 677 transport workers unaccounted for
The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has reported that 677 transport workers remain unaccounted for following the Bhote Koshi floods. The Federation disclosed the information during a meeting held on Thursday under the coordination of Rajiv Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. It also reported that 515 trucks and containers have gone missing. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee under the coordination of Director General Pokharel to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods and prepare a report recommending a basis for compensation.
Motorcycle rider dies in road accident
A motorcycle rider died in a road accident in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Sunsari, this morning. The deceased has been identified as Anil Rai, 29, of Bhirgaun, Dhankuta Municipality-2. His pillion rider, Sandip Rai, 26, from the same area, was injured in the accident, according to Chandra Bahadur Khadka, information officer at the District Police Office, Sunsari. Anil died while undergoing treatment at Birat Teaching Hospital. Sandip is receiving treatment at the same hospital. According to police, the motorcycle, which was travelling at high speed, crashed into a road divider, killing the rider and injuring the pillion rider.
Nepal Telecom announces special data offer on Constitution Day
Nepal Telecom has introduced a special data offer for prepaid and postpaid mobile customers on the occasion of Constitution Day 2083 BS (2026). According to a press release issued by the company, two data packages—Unlimited Lite and Unlimited Pro—are available as part of the Constitution Day offer. Under the Unlimited Lite 499 package, priced at Rs. 499 including taxes, customers can use up to 5 GB of data per day for 30 days. Once the daily 5 GB limit is reached, customers can continue using unlimited data at a speed of 2 Mbps for the remainder of the day.
Birendrabhakta to continue tongue-piercing ritual
Birendrabhakta Gaju Shrestha, a 39-year-old resident of Balkumari, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-4, is set to perform the traditional tongue-piercing ritual again this year. Shrestha is preparing to perform the ritual for the fifth time in an effort to preserve the centuries-old festival and tradition. He has announced that he will perform the tongue-piercing ritual on Saturday, Sept. 26, on the occasion of Yenya Punhi. The festival was revived in 2074 BS under Shrestha’s leadership. Since then, he has performed the ritual in 2079, 2081 and 2082 BS. Before Shrestha, Krishna Nanicha Shrestha of Madhyapur Thimi performed the tongue-piercing ritual three times—in 2052, 2057 and 2063 BS.
29th memorial day of Ganesh Man Singh observed today
The Nepali Congress, its sister organizations and well-wishers observed the 29th memorial day of Ganesh Man Singh, the Supreme Commander of the 1990 People’s Movement, by organizing various programmes today. Born on Kartik 24, 1972 BS, in Chhetrapati, Kathmandu, Singh passed away on Ashwin 2, 2054 BS. He actively participated in the movement to overthrow the Rana regime as a member of the then Praja Parishad. After escaping from Bhadragol Jail before 2007 BS, Singh travelled to India, where he forged a political partnership with fellow leader B.P. Koirala. He later led the Nepali Rashtriya Congress, which was established in 2003 BS.
Youth activist Miraj calls for homegrown solutions to Nepal’s political challenges
Youth activist Miraj Dhungana has said that Nepal’s political reforms should be guided by a clear understanding of the country’s own social, political and geographical realities, rather than by advice from foreign embassies or external power centers. Sharing his views on social media, Dhungana described himself as a “local, a product of this soil” and said he would not approach foreign embassies for advice on Nepal’s political reforms, citing his sense of self-respect. “My self-respect does not allow me to go to embassies of other countries for political reforms,” he wrote.
Indian national arrested in Kathmandu with 1.4 kg of illegal gold
Police have arrested an Indian national in possession of 1.4 kilograms of illegal gold from Bhedasingh, Kathmandu. According to SP Rameshwor Karki of the Valley Crime Investigation Office, the arrested individual has been identified as Manik Das. Police also recovered Rs. 750,000 in cash from his possession during the operation. Authorities said Das had been running a touch house in the Bhedasingh area. Police are conducting further investigation to determine the source of the confiscated gold and its intended destination.
