Finance Minister Wagle to meet Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar today



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, who is on a three-day official visit to India, is participating in various high-level diplomatic and economic engagements on Friday, the second day of his visit.

Finance Minister Wagle, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday, held a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman, on the same day.

The visit focuses on Nepal-India economic cooperation and bilateral interests. On Friday morning, Wagle is scheduled to address a high-level diplomatic dialogue organized by former Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran at the India International Centre as the chief guest. He will share his views on the diplomatic and economic relations between Nepal and India.

According to his itinerary, Wagle will meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar at 5 pm today (Friday). The meeting is expected to cover bilateral relations, economic cooperation and matters of mutual interest.

Wagle will also participate in a large-scale programme organized by Javed Ashraf, president of the India Trade Promotion Organization, at Bharat Mandapam. The programme will bring together industrialists, business leaders and senior officials to discuss various aspects of Nepal-India economic cooperation.

The visiting delegation includes Amrit Lamsal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance; Gehendra Rajbhandari, joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dr Surendra Thapa, deputy chief of mission at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi; Economic Minister Taranath Adhikari; and Kanchan Basnet, private secretary to the Finance Minister.

On the third and final day of the visit, Saturday, the delegation led by Finance Minister Wagle is scheduled to return to Nepal after meeting representatives of the Indian private sector and other senior officials.
