 Jhapa witnesses damages worth Rs 220 million in disasters in last FY



JHAPA: The Jhapa district lost 11 people and property worth almost Rs 220 million in different natural disaster-related incidents in the last fiscal year.

Information Officer of District Police Office Jhapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Awa, shared that a total of 359 cases of disasters were recorded in the district, injuring 37 people in the last fiscal year.

The police said that 156 cases of fire, 94 cases of human-wildlife conflicts, 52 of storms, 35 of flooding and inundation and 22 of lightning were recorded in the district.

DSP Awa said that two people succumbed to fire, six in human-wildlife conflicts, one in storms and two others lost their lives in lightning incidents.

Likewise, a large number of cattle died in those incidents.

DSP Awa shared that property worth Rs 152.2 gutted in fire-related incidents and flooding and inundation caused damage to properties worth more than Rs 63.4 million.
