Absconding murder accused arrested after 18 years

JANAKPURDHAM: Siraha police have arrested a man who had been on the run for nearly 18 years after allegedly killing a woman over a dowry dispute.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ramnath Rai, 60, of Siraha. He had been absconding since the murder of 25-year-old Chandrika Devi Rai of Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-5, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Bahadur Pal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Siraha.

Police said Chandrika was attacked with a sharp weapon by her husband, Boudha Rai, along with three others, at around 9 am on Bhadra 3 following a dispute over dowry. She sustained critical injuries and died while being taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for treatment.

DSP Pal said Ramnath Rai, one of the absconding accused in the case, was arrested on Friday from his village. Further investigation into the case is underway.
