The Nepali Congress has made public its election manifesto for the House of Representatives polls, unveiling it from the historic and cultural city of Janakpur on Wednesday. The pledge document, featuring 10 key visions, was released in the presence of party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, vice president and election mobilization committee coordinator Bishwo Prakash Sharma, vice president Pushpa Bhusal, and other leaders including the Madhesh Province chief.

Gagan Kumar Thapa: No one can burn Singha Durbar wearing a mask
Addressing a pledge assembly in Janakpur on Wednesday, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa asserted that no one will be allowed to set Singha Durbar on fire wearing a mask. Speaking at the event, Thapa said the country should no longer have to bear losses and instability. Referring to incidents on September 8 and 9, he pledged that such events would not be repeated. “No one should be killed by the state’s bullets like on September 8, no one should have to lose their life again. If youths take to the streets in protest, the Nepali Congress will address their sentiments,” he said. “And no one will be allowed to burn Singha Durbar wearing a mask again like on September 9.”
Gagan Kumar Thapa to answer public queries at Rastriya Sabha Griha
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that after unveiling the party’s pledge document, it is now time to face questions from the public. Stating that political parties must remain accountable, Thapa emphasized that leaders should not shy away from questions but instead confront them directly. He informed that he and party representatives will be present at a program scheduled for tomorrow at Rastriya Sabha Griha, where they will respond to questions from citizens in person.
Rabi Lamichhane calls to shut down old parties through March 5 election
Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane, has said voters should shut down all traditional political parties through the March 5 election. Addressing a mass election assembly in Dhangadhi on Wednesday, Lamichhane urged the public to use the upcoming vote to end what he described as years of exploitation in Sudurpaschim. “Using the rights of Sudurpaschim, they have exploited the region for years. Now this must stop,” he said. “This time, we must close all the shutters of the old parties at once. The practice of turning the same agenda into a vote bank for years must end in a single stroke.”

11 soldiers injured as Nepal Army bus en route to poll security patrol crashes in Bhojpur
A bus carrying personnel of the Nepali Army met with an accident in Bhojpur while heading out for a security patrol ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. The bus, carrying 24 army personnel, had departed from the New Shreenath Battalion based at the district headquarters for patrol duty when it veered off the road near Seti Bagar in Bhojpur Municipality-3.
Youth held for assault during Shivaratri at Pashupatinath Temple
Police have taken a 25-year-old man into custody on charges of assaulting devotees and police personnel during the Shivaratri festival at the Pashupatinath Temple premises. According to the District Police Range Kathmandu, the arrested individual has been identified as Rijan Shrestha of Thuldamar, Makwanpur, currently residing in Chagal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13.
Gagan Thapa pledges five-year nation-building plan, admits past missed opportunities
President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said the party will move forward with a concrete five-year plan focused on nation-building. Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Intellectual Professionals Campaign Council in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Thapa admitted that the party had failed to fully utilize opportunities it received in the past.
Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Madhesh founding chair Mamta Sharma resigns
Mamta Sharma, the founding chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Madhesh, has resigned from the party, including from her general membership. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sharma said she had joined the party inspired by its core slogans, “Youth must enter politics” and “Choose the competent.” However, she expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the party’s recent decisions and working style regarding the upcoming March 5 election were contrary to its founding values, statute, and public commitments.

As the country gears up for the upcoming House of Representatives election, political parties have stepped up campaign activities across the Kathmandu Valley following the Election Commission’s green signal for door-to-door canvassing from February 16. Gold, silver prices fall in Nepali market
The price of gold and silver has declined in the Nepali market today, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. Gold is trading at Rs 300,400 per tola, down by Rs 1,500 from Tuesday, when it was priced at Rs 301,900 per tola. Silver has also seen a decrease, with the price falling by Rs 5 to Rs 4,880 per tola. On Tuesday, silver was traded at Rs 4,885 per tola.
Banepa tense after scooter rider killed in tipper collision
Tension erupted in Banepa, Kavrepalanchok, on Wednesday morning after a scooter rider died after being hit by a tipper truck. According to Kavre Police, tipper with registration number Bagmati Province 01004 Ka 3423 struck scooter number Bagmati Province 02–063 Pa 9189. The scooter rider died in the incident. Police have sent the body to the hospital, and the identity of the deceased male has yet to be confirmed.
Department of Passport to remain open on public holidays
The Department of Passport will continue providing services even on public holidays. According to a public notice, the Department will remain open for passport-related work, including distribution, despite today and tomorrow being official holidays. The government has declared today a holiday for Gyalpo Lhosar and tomorrow, Thursday, for Democracy Day. The Passport Department will operate on both days from 10 am to 1 pm.
